Ergonomics is defined as, “The Science of designing the workplace, keeping in mind the capabilities and limitations of the worker.” (Ergo-Plus) Engineers and architects take into consideration the usability of the equipment and workspaces that they design in order to create a safe and functional environment for employees to work in. Careful attention to workspace design lowers the risk of injury for employees and improves their performance. Injuries can happen when a worker is either standing or sitting in a static position for an extended period of time. Repetitive movement or required heavy lifting are also common culprits when it comes to worker injury.
Whose job is it to prevent workplace injuries? Everyone plays a role. Equipment and workplace designers have an incentive to engineer safe products that employers will be satisfied with. Employers need to be aware of OSHA requirements and understand the needs of their employees. Employees should take every step to practice the best ergonomic principles when doing their jobs. When these three parties are all being ergonomically mindful, a culture of safety can be developed.
One ergonomic risk that was identified by customers of Westmor was the height of standard bobtail fill lines. The traditional design requires awkward, heavy lifting of hoses, causing stress and strain on the operator. After listening to customer feedback, Westmor engineers developed a new design called Ergoload Deck™ Fill Lines, a feature now optional on all Blueline™ Bobtail models. The Ergoload option places both the spray fill and vapor return lines at waist height, approximately twenty inches lower than those of a conventional bobtail. The design provides a new safer way for operators to load their bobtails. With a comfortable drop deck design that makes their work easier and increases production.
Our goal at Westmor is to always actively listen to the voice of our customers and respond in a manner above and beyond expectations. We’re committed to innovation that improves the safety of the end user, providing them with high quality equipment for their specific application.
